Art prints as a gift
Buying art for someone else, the safest size is A3 (29.7 × 42 cm) or 30 × 40 cm: it suits almost any wall, fits cheap ready-made frames, and does not commit the recipient to clearing a large space. Prices start at €25.
Art is a good gift and a risky one. The risk is not taste — it is scale. A print that is too large becomes a problem the recipient has to solve, and one that is too small gets propped on a shelf and forgotten.
So: middle sizes. A3 or 30 × 40 cm suits a rented flat, a first home and a desk equally, and both are standard formats, so the recipient can pick up a frame anywhere for very little. Note that frames are not included here — if that matters for the occasion, buying a frame to go with the print makes it feel finished.
On subject: something tied to the person rather than to a trend tends to land better. A Bauhaus colour study for the architect friend, a William Morris botanical for the one with too many plants, a suffrage print for the one who argues at dinner.
Practical: you can send the parcel straight to the recipient — just enter their address at checkout. There is no invoice or price inside the tube, only the print and its packing.
