Art prints for the living room
For a living room, aim to fill about two thirds of the width of the sofa below. Above a 200 cm sofa that means roughly 130 cm of art — either one A1 print (59.4 × 84.1 cm) or two or three prints hung side by side.
The living room is the one wall guests actually look at, which is why it is the hardest to get right. The most common mistake is going too small: a single A4 above a three-seater reads as an afterthought.
Work from the furniture, not the wall. Measure the sofa, sideboard or fireplace underneath and aim for art that spans about two thirds of it. Hang the centre of the piece at 145-152 cm from the floor — eye level for most people standing — and if it sits above furniture, leave 15-20 cm of breathing room between the top of the sofa and the bottom of the frame.
